Make This are proud to have been commissioned to 3D print these “Optimism” sculptures for NZ artist Simon Denny and Auckland Art Gallery. These 3D printed sculptures are activated by AR and are on display at Auckland Art Gallery for the next year. This was a fun and challenging project to undertake. It required heavily modifying our printers to get through the large amount of filament (approximately 400kgs) quickly.

Assembling and installing “Optimism” at Auckland Art Gallery would take just over 2 days. The dome print is 260kg and the ring print 240kg, both requiring a lot of machinery and muscle. A lot of calculations were made to carefully hang such heavy structures from the ceiling. Everything fit together perfectly and exceeded our expectations.
